Syria Fundraiser: The Suffering Grasses

Posted: November 17, 2013 in 2013-14, Events

Last week Oxford PEN hosted a fundraiser for the Médecins Sans Frontières Syrian Crisis Appeal. Our screening of Iara Lee’s highly acclaimed documentary The Suffering Grasses was followed by a Q&A with the film’s production manager Abdulwahab Tahhan, chaired by Dr Marwa Daoudy, lecturer in politics and international relations at Oxford.

The Suffering Grasses was filmed in 2012, and it offers an intimate account of the emerging refugee crisis in the country in 2012, in the wake of the Syrian revolution. The discussion which followed raised many questions about the political situation in Syria, the background to the revolution, where the country might find itself in the future, and what role the West might play.

We are delighted that the event raised £140.46 which will go straight to the MSF appeal. In practical terms, this means that MSF will be able to purchase two much-needed first aid kits. You can read more about their work in Syria here.
